Sport Training and Rewards for Local Elite Athletes
The Sports Training and Rewards (STAR) scheme is a partnership between North East Lincolnshire Council's Sports Development Unit and local leisure provider Sport Leisure Management (SLM). The scheme is open to talented athletes who compete at County level or above in their sport.
North East Lincolnshire's most promising athletes can now apply for a six months membership to the STAR scheme which offers them limited free access to leisure facilities within North East Lincolnshire to support their development at the elite level.
The scheme already has members representing the County and even the Nation in sports such as rugby, swimming, rowing and athletics to name a few. These athletes have found the scheme invaluable in aiding development and continued success at their level of competition.
Councillor Steve Hocknell, Portfolio Holder for Culture and Tourism at North East Lincolnshire Council said "This scheme has been assisting local athletes for several years now. It is a great initiative that truly recognises talent and provides valuable support to these athletes."
The 6 centres involved in the scheme are Grimsby Leisure Centre, Grimsby Swimming Pool, Cleethorpes Leisure Centre, King George V Stadium, Immingham Swimming Pool and Immingham Sports Centre.
To be eligible for the STAR scheme athletes need to be residing in North East Lincolnshire and competing at County level or above. If you are interested in joining the scheme and think that you may benefit from the free access to the above SLM leisure facilities then you should contact Louise Smith at the Sports Development Unit on 01472 323379 or e-mail: louise.smith@nelincs.gov.uk.
