Girls Football League Starts With A Bang!
Girls' Football League Starts With a Bang!
Bonfire night will see the start of a new girls' football league in North East Lincolnshire. On Wednesday the 5th and Thursday the 6th of November 112 girls from 11 schools are taking the opportunity to kick off the first fixtures of the North East Lincolnshire Primary and Junior Schools' Girls' Football League. The 6-aside league is a partnership initiative between North East Lincolnshire Council's Sports Development Unit and local schools, with fixtures set to be played on a monthly basis in the form of mini tournaments.
The informal league will take place at Freeman Street Resource Centre on the brand new Sport England funded Astroturf pitches. The venue is ideal for such an event as it boasts a safe secure child friendly environment, fully secure changing rooms with showers, flood lights and two all weather Astroturf pitches.
The Sports Development Unit has developed this league as a competitive platform to support the wider development of girls' football around North East Lincolnshire. The league is one element of the continuous development work that the Unit and its partners have planned for girls' football. Other work involves supporting new and existing girls' clubs and supporting boys clubs to develop girls' sections.
Councillor Geoff Lowis, portfolio holder for Regeneration and Community Learning said: "It is good to see the Sports Development Unit working with schools and the wider community to support the growth of women's sport. The future looks bright for girls' football in North East Lincolnshire."
If there are any primary or junior schools that would like to join this competition, please contact the Sports Development Unit on 01472 323434 for more information. For more information on booking the facility at Freeman Street Resource Centre contact Rob Allison on 01472 325915.
