Grange Junior School Scoops Prestigious Sports Award

GrangeJuniorSchoolScoops Prestigious Sports Award

Grange Junior School is celebrating after being one of the first Schools in North East Lincolnshire to be awarded the Activemark Award.

Activemark is a Sport England accreditation scheme for Primary and Junior Schools that recognises and rewards a school for promoting the benefits of physical activities and for offering good quality physical activity provision. The programme provides schools with a thorough auditing and development tool that will help raise the standard of physical activity provision.

In order to gain the award, the school had to show that they offered a broad and balanced P.E. Curriculum and that they had a range of physical activities and sports being offered to all students, through an out-of-hours learning programme. The school was able to show that they also offered opportunities for children to take part in competitions, events and festivals, all of which help encourage children to continue to take part in the sport/activity and hopefully join a club. Information on planning, future development and community involvement also had to be provided.

The Activemark Award is co-ordinated locally by The Sports Development units' Active Schools Team. Angie Burnett, Assistant Active Schools Officer, said: "Grange Junior School is very committed to physical activity and they offer the children a wide range of opportunities. They have obviously worked hard to develop such a programme and have gained this award in recognition of that."

Chris Jones, Development Manager, of Regeneration and Community Learning at North East Lincolnshire Council added: "This is an excellent achievement for Grange Junior School to be awarded the Activemark Award. It reflects the commitment of all staff and students in broadening the range of P.E. activities for a fitter future."

For further information about the Activemark Award, please contact Angie Burnett on 01472 323385.
