Grant Hits Target For Sporty Youngsters
Yarborough Estate Residents Group has scooped a grant of almost £5000 from the Lotto Awards for All scheme.
The funding will enable the group to provide sports activities during the holiday periods from now until Easter 2005 at a subsidised cost to the young people attending.
This follows discussions in the Grimsby North area Community Drug and Crime Team meetings whose bid was supported by the Positive Futures project within North East Lincolnshire Council's sports development unit.
Councillor Geoff Lowis, portfolio holder for regeneration and community learning, said: "This is a great boost for the area. There are limited activities available for young people in this area.
"It is important that the community group are acting to implement opportunities for young people which improve their health as well as give them positive options during school holiday periods.
"The activities propose to build on the success of the football courses run in the previous holiday period and will lead to competition and achievement awards. The group also intends to ensure other activities are available for those less sporty."
Jaki Fitz-simon, chairman of the residents group, said: "We are delighted to have been awarded the money and are looking forward to being able to work more with young people from the estate and surrounding areas."
