Grimsby's Euro' 2004 Girls Football Tournament
Girls are taking part in the North East Lincolnshire Primary and Junior Schools Girls Football League version of the Euro' 2004 tournament.
The championships will take place from 1.30pm on Friday (July 16) at Old Clee Junior, when around 200 young female footballers will take part.
Twenty teams from primary and junior schools around North East Lincolnshire have been taking part in the league since November which has taken place on the Astroturf pitches at Freeman Street Resource Centre.
Girls from 14 schools have battled it out over the past eight months resulting in an extremely exciting and closely contested competition.
Signhills Junior School's A team ended up as league winners with OldClee Junior School's A team finishing runners-up.
A presentation of trophies for the league will be take place at the Euro 2004 style tournament at around 3.30pm.
A fair play award, which has been voted for by team mangers throughout the course of the league, will also be presented at the tournament.
As the battle for the top six places in the league became so fierce over the last few months it is expected to be an exciting tournament.
Councillor Geoff Lowis, the council's portfolio holder for regeneration and community learning, said: "This league demonstrates how well girls football is developing in North East Lincolnshire. The success of this league has proven how many talented female footballers we have in North East Lincolnshire."
