Grimsby's Positive Futures Football Tournament
Around 100 young men from around the country, aged from 10-16 years-old, will be taking part in a football tournament at Novartis playing fields from 11am on Saturday (31 July).
The tournament is hosted by Positive Futures, in partnership with Novartis, Humberside Police, Humberside Fire Brigade and the Safer Communities Partnership.
Footballers from the local area will be joined by teams from Hull, East Riding, Wolverhampton, Nottingham and Bradford.
The theme for the day is to promote community safety to young people in a positive and exciting way, that will be memorable for all involved.
The tournament has been made possible through the help of Novartis by donating the use of their football pitches and by the support throughout the day from the police, community safety team and fire service.
Positive Futures is part of the sports development team of North East Lincolnshire Council and is funded by Sport England, Youth Justice Board, Football Foundation and the Home Office. The aim is to use sport and physical activity to encourage a healthy lifestyle linking information and learning to promote positive life choices in relation to drugs and crime for 10-16 year-old young people.
Councillor Geoff Lowis, portfolio holder for regeneration and community learning said: "This tournament will hopefully indicate to people what a great job Positive Futures does throughout the area and reward all the young people for their achievements whilst on the project."
