Let the Games Commence
Plans are well underway in this Olympic year to stage the 2004 Humber Youth Games, the region's largest multi sport event for young sportsmen and women from North East Lincolnshire and the Humber region.
Funded by the Lottery Sports Fund, the Humber Youth Games is one of 45 events taking place across England this summer as part of Sport England's Active Sports programme. The competitions have been designed by the National Governing Bodies of Sport to provide competitive opportunities for young people throughout the area.
Various venues across Hull will provide the setting for this year's games on Sunday 13 June, when teams from North East Lincolnshire will do battle against North Lincolnshire, The East Riding of Yorkshire and Kingston upon Hull, in a number of different sports.
Councillor Geoff Lowis, portfolio holder for regeneration and community learning, said: "The Youth Games are always a high point in the regional summer sporting calendar. They are now very well established and provide a really enjoyable and competitive outlet for North East Lincolnshire's young sportsmen and women.
"The Humber Youth Games give our youngsters a real opportunity to showcase their skills and represent their local area."
Young people in school years 5-10 who currently play athletics, basketball, cricket, girls football, hockey, netball, high five, rugby and tennis are being selected and trained ahead of the games to represent North East Lincolnshire.
Anyone wishing to find out more about the specific selections or indeed representing North East Lincolnshire at the games should contact Chris Dyson, active sports officer, on 01472 323389 for further details.
