Positive Futures
Positive Futures is a national social inclusion programme using sport and leisure activities to engage young people who are at risk of becoming involved with Anti-Social Behaviour, Drug Misuse and Youth Crime
The aim
To influence young people's lives by providing access to personal development opportunities through the use of sport and physical activity.
- we use sport and leisure activities as a catalyst to encourage project participation
- we steer young people towards education, training, volunteering and employment
Positive Futures is a joint partnership between Sport England, the Youth Justice Board and the United Kingdom Anti-Drugs Co-ordination Unit. The aim of the initiative is to use sport to reduce anti-social behaviour, as well as crime and drug use, among 10-16 year olds within local neighbourhoods who are at risk of becoming involved in crime and substance abuse.
The scheme in North East Lincolnshire targets specific communities and groups of young people that have been identified as vulnerable.
The programme uses sport to reduce the risk of young people turning to crime and drugs. Each programme consists of sporting activities, educational workshops and mentoring opportunities - all aimed at providing the participants with a positive future.
Since then, the national team have supported the development of a further 80 projects across the country. News and Updates
In August 2007, N.E. Lincolnshire Positive Futures redeveloped its programme by creating strong working partnerships with the following;
-
North East Lincolnshire's Young People's Support Service, With the expertise of experienced and qualified youth engagement workers together we are able to assist the young people in their personal and social development by providing resources, opportunities and support.
-
Grimsby Town's Football In The Community. Based at Grimsby Town Football Club is a football and Sports charity that provides a hogh standard of Football coaching aiming to improve the health, social esteem, and skills of Children and Young People across North East Lincolnshire.
Positive Futures, Humberside Police, The Young people's Service and Football in The Community are all working towards the enagement of young people in order to increase their quality of life, increase participation in sports and physical activity and tacle issues around youth offending, anti - social behaviour and drug use.
This is successfully done by building trusting relationships with young people and enabling them to enjoy all activities.
This working partnerships has recently formed a group which has been named Sport Lincs. This brand will enable the community and especially the young people that organisations are working together for their benefit.
Young People's Achievements
Immingham Youth Play Scartho in their first 11 aside match - October 2007
The Immingham Youth team have been a massive area of concentration under the Sport Lincs banner over the past 3 months. The young people have developed dramatically in terms of having respect for the staff, themselves, their team mates and the community they live in. As a reward for their great achievements the Immingham Youth Team were all presented a training jacket with their team name on the back, The WHOLE team had a sense of pride and appreciation throughout the whole match wearing their training jackets.
A New Experience - Immingham Youth Play the Beverley Positive Futures Football Team
The team had been geared up with the idea of playing on a new 11aside 3G artificial grass football pitch on Sunday 4th November in Beverley against a Positive Futures football team from the East Riding project. The day was a great success and was thoroughly enjoyed by all.
Thank you to all who took part and supported this day and thank you to the boys for their great efforts and fantastic behaviour

FreestyleDance Academy - with a London West End performer
Positive Futures and Youth Engagement worker coordinated a free 2 day Dance Academy for young people of North East Lincolnshire aged 10 to 19 years. The event was held on Saturday 24th November and Saturday 1st December.
Young People learnt and rehearsed a 1950's Jazz routine over the two days which was delivered by a West End Performer; the routine the girls learnt is an adapted version of what is currently staging in London's West End.
In addition to this a street dance instructor was also teaching a routine to the young people which will formed part of a competition in the evening performance.
The academy was based at The East Coast College Of Art and Design (Grimsby Institute) with access to the dance studios and lighthouse theatre.
The Girls took part in a fantastic performance to parents, friends and family.
