Seeking Asylum or British Citizenship

Advice for people living in this area who are not British Citizens, including Asylum Seekers.

The Home Offices website at http://www.ind.homeoffice.gov.uk has information on UK Immigration control, plus the forms and advice needed to make an application.

Asylum Aid

Asylum Aid, whose website can be found at http://www.asylumaid.org.uk is a charity offering free legal advice and representation to asylum-seekers and refugees seeking safety from persecution.

Refugee Council

The Refugee Council's website at http://www.refugeecouncil.org.uk has information for both refugees and the people who work alongside them, including a myth-buster, latest government policies and advice in 12 different languages.

Unaccompanied Children

Advice from the Council's Referral and Assessment Service, about unaccompanied children and minors seeking asylum, can be found at /AtoZ/atozDetail?ID=7481.

Other Languages - Interpretation and Translation

The Council offers an interpretation and translation service for people who need to access Council services but whose first language is not English. Go to /AtoZ/atozDetail?ID=7790 to find out how to book an interpreter or translator.

The HARP website at http://www.communicate-health.org.uk/card has a genius idea - a multilingual appointment card which you can fill in online in English and which will then translate to a selection of languages automatically.

Education and Learning English

North East Lincolnshire Council's Adult Community Learning Service offers courses for people who would like to learn English, including women only classes. Full details can be found at /education/adulteducation/Adult_Education_-_English_and_Maths_Workshop.htm.

General Advice
