If have recently been registered disabled, help is on hand in the form of support groups, advice centres and council services, which can help you adapt to your new circumstances and carry on with your life.
DisabledGo!
DisabledGo! is an online service to help people with disabilities find out about the accessibility of local companies and services. The site lists offices, shops, restaurants, theatres, libraries, banks and markets in North East Lincolnshire. The site is easy to use, with maps and detailed descriptions of the facilities, right down to how the doors open and whether there is bad lighting or steps, plus information on the level of assistance you can expect and contact numbers.
Disability.gov
This official website is aimed at people with disabilities and their carers and families. It has a huge amount of information on policies, new initiatives, campaigns, legislation and your rights as a disabled person. The website is easy to navigate, in plain English and is endorsed by the RNIB's 'See it Right' accessibility campaign to make websites accessible to those with a visual impairment.

Council Tax Benefits
Our council tax benefits page will help you find out if you qualify for a discount on your Council Tax.
Disability Benefits
The Department of Work and Pensions website has information on the benefits and allowances you may be eligible for if you are disabled or a caring for someone with a disability.
There's also lots of information on the Disability Living Allowance including a bulletin boards where you can ask specific questions.
Health
NHS Direct is a great one-stop shop where you can find out about conditions and diseases, medication, and prevention advice. This page, has a guide to health services in your local area and the facility to request advice from a trained nursing practitioner online, before you contact your GP.
Home Care
Home care is available to help you with day to day tasks such as washing, dressing and preparing meals.
Charities, Clubs and Support groups
There are several local groups offering support to, and campaigning for, people with disabilities, their carers and their families.
The Council's clubs and societies database lists many of the local facilities and groups run for or by people with disabilities, including specialist groups for specific conditions.
North East Lincolnshire Disabled Access campaign to raise disability awareness in the area and have web pages.
The Beehive Network also provides a searchable list of lots of other groups, clubs and charitable organisations in the North East Lincolnshire area.

Dial A Ride
This Council service provides accessible transport for people who find it difficult to use public transport due to illness or disability. More about costs, eligibility and booking times.
Phone 'n' Ride
A new flexible transport service which links urban and rural communities. Although the buses are accessible, low-rise and wheelchair-friendly, the service is open to anyone who needs to travel in the area. Register here.
The Disabled Workers Co-operative
A registered charity which helps disabled people to help themselves. Their aim is twofold - to raise the independence of disabled people by enabling them to take an active role in the economy, and also to raise awareness of the contribution that disabled people can make to society.
Their website includes an online database of disabled workers listing their skills, services and products they offer, an e-jobs portal and a directory of organisations and community information websites.
