College and University
Grimsby has two excellent colleges, offering a range of courses and opportunities for young people and more mature students. Here are links, plus information on courses, colleges and universities elsewhere.
Student Services
The Council's Student Services Team can offer advice to any student about student loans, financial issues, EMA's, tuition fees and more.
The DCSF (Department for Children, Schools and Families) also have a student support website.
Education Maintenance Allowance (EMA)
You may qualify for an EMA of up to £30 a week, to help towards items such as travel, books and equipment, if you stay at school or college after your GCSE's. You must be on an academic or vocational course for at least 12 hours of guided learning a week. See if you qualify for an EMA.
UCAS
UCAS, the University and College Admissions Service, have a website where you can find essential lists of all universities and courses available, entry criteria, application information and statistics.
Aimhigher
The Aimhigher campaign outlines the career benefits of going into Higher Education and aims to encourage students to take their education further after leaving school. Thier website has useful sections on student life, what to expect and how to apply for a course.
Graduate Careers
The Prospects website is an online careers guidance service for student and graduates, with tons of advice on your options after university.
North East Lincolnshire Council is currently participating in the National Graduate Development Programme which is led by the Employers Organisation for Local Government. The programme has been running successfully since its launch in March 2002. The programme allows local authorities to access high quality graduate candidates, who have the potential to develop into Senior Managers within the next 10 to 15 years, to work on projects within the Council.
