Contact the community pride team to report noise nuisance as crackdown begins.
The council’s community pride team began work on a four week programme of action to combat noisy neighbours on Friday, August 13.
During the summer months, many residents unwittingly cause their neighbours problems by playing their music too loudly and the number of complaints to the council's community pride team increases.
The majority of the extra complaints are usually about noisy neighbours playing loud music with their windows open, particularly over weekends and summer barbecues and late night parties also add to the complaints.
Over the next few weekends, the community pride service will be operating up to midnight every Friday and Saturday night responding to calls from the community to deal with issues such as: dogs barking, loud music, building alarms, and noisy neighbours making noises like shouting or banging doors or DIY.
Councillor Steve Beasant, portfolio holder for community safety, neighbourhoods and customer service, said: “During this crackdown, we will be taking action to ease the suffering of residents who are plagued by unreasonable noise nuisance..
“It is perfectly normal to occasionally have a party in your home, for instance to celebrate a birthday or other family occasion, but a good neighbour will always take steps to prevent it from becoming a nuisance.
“Consider your actions carefully to make sure you keep on friendly terms with your neighbours and remember that ‘sleep deprivation’ has been used as a form of torture!”
He added: “In every situation it should be possible to have a successful party without upsetting other residents and risking an enforcement officer turning up on your doorstep. In extreme cases, officers have brought parties to an abrupt end by seizing the amplification equipment and noisy neighbours could face a fine of up to £5,000.”
The council will be responding to all types of noise complaints that are affecting the community. So if noise is stopping you from enjoying your evening, call the community pride service, on (01472) 325823.
