Library service gives away two festive Sainsbury's hampers
TWO lucky library members, old and new, were presented with luxury Christmas hampers after being announced the winners of a recent competition organised by North East Lincolnshire Council’s library service.
Library members were asked to recommend a friend to join the library service in order to be entered into a free prize draw to win one of two luxury Taste the Difference Christmas hampers, donated by Sainsbury’s. The other hamper was awarded to one of the new members who signed up during the scheme.
The winners are Mr Grant Pirie, who is an existing library member, and Mr Andrew Bell, who joined during the competition.
Mr Pirie, said: “I recommended a friend to join the library as I think we are really lucky to have such an excellent service in Waltham where I live. I use the library to take out books for my children and I’m very pleased to have won a hamper.”
Mr Bell, said: “My family have been members of the library for some time but as I work away and have small children I often don’t have the time to read as much as I’d like.
“It is the excellent service provided by my local branch of the library service that persuaded me to join. Having this facility in the community means I can quickly pop by and pick up or return books with no fuss, which is great.”
Councillor Leanor Pidgen, portfolio holder for culture, leisure and tourism, said: “Throughout November while this competition was running the library service saw an 18 per cent increase in new members on last year.
“This is great news as libraries really are about more than just borrowing books these days. They have a whole host of items to loan, facilities to use and workshops that are suitable for people of all ages and interests.”
She added: “I’d also like to thank Sainsbury’s for their kind donation of the hampers, which I’m sure will be much appreciated by the winners over the Christmas period.”
