On Saturday July 17, Molly and Brian Broomhead opened up their home and garden in Cleethorpes to host their third annual blooming great tea party in aid of Marie Curie Cancer Care.
A steady flow of visitors including the Marie Curie nursing team from North East Lincolnshire Care Trust Plus, enjoyed the refreshments, rummaging through bric a brac stalls and trying their luck on the instant prize raffle, bottle stall and chocolate board.
Local businesses and supporters kindly donated many raffle prizes and cakes, and Ringtons provided the tea. A local businessman donated a garden seat and it was auctioned off on the day to the highest bidder.
Molly and Brian said: “It is such a worthwhile cause. We had family, friends and neighbours popping in all day for cakes, tea and a chat.
“We are already looking forward to planning our fourth party next year.”
Molly’s granddaughter Kim Humphreys dressed up for the occasion and helped to collect donations at the house. Kim said: “My mum’s friend had cancer and I think it is really important to raise money for the charity. It’s also a fun event and I enjoy meeting lots of people.”
The day was a great success and £750 was raised. The money will help more Marie Curie nurses to provide free care to patients with terminal cancer in the comfort of their own homes.
