Changes to recycling collections in North East Lincolnshire

Recycling boxes

Steps are being taken to improve North East Lincolnshire Council’s recycling service which will result in some changes to households’ current collection days.

STEPS are being taken to improve North East Lincolnshire Council’s recycling service which will result in some changes to households’ current collection days.

The new service will see changes being made to the routes taken by the refuse crews, helping to cut costs together with reducing the environmental impact of the service.

Councillor Peter Burgess, portfolio holder for environment and the green agenda, said: “Importantly, the changes to the service will make the collection rounds more efficient whilst maintaining the same level of service.

“Not everyone will be affected by the changes and those households whose recycling collection days are changing will receive a letter explaining when they should present their triple boxes and brown bin.”

The letter will also include a schedule for the following four months’ collection dates.

Recycling is collected fortnightly in North East Lincolnshire with a scheme of triple boxes for paper glass and cans, and brown bins for garden waste.

This new service will see some households’ collection days change. Residents whose recycling days are changing are asked to present their recycling on the date indicated in the letter.

Tony Neul, acting deputy director of neighbourhood services, said: “The rounds have been developed over a number of years and these changes are to ensure that we continue to deliver an effective and efficient service for all of our residents in North East Lincolnshire.”

The changes will start during August and residents that don’t receive a letter should present their recycling as normal. Weekly general waste bin collection days will not be affected.

Mr Burgess added: "We would like to thank residents for their continuing recycling efforts, and ask them to bear with us as the new collection service is rolled out."

If anyone has any questions about the new service, they should call the Waste Hotline on (01472) 325841.
