Your chance to use local Credit Union services from Nunsthorpe Library.
The North East Lincolnshire Credit Union, which suggests easy ways that people can save money and get affordable loans, will soon have a collection point at Nunsthorpe Library.
A Credit Union representative will be available every Wednesday morning from September 8, between 10.30am and 12.30pm, so that customers can find out about becoming a member, deposit savings and make loan repayments.
Established in 1999, the Credit Union is a not-for-profit community based organisation, owned and run by its members.
It is authorised and regulated by the Financial Services Authority and members’ savings are protected by the Financial Services Compensation Scheme, just like banks and building societies.
Councillor Leanor Pidgen, portfolio holder for culture, leisure and tourism, said: “Joining the Credit Union offers a good opportunity to save money or get a loan for people who traditionally may not be able to get these services through the banks.
“It is brilliant news that the Credit Union’s services will be available at the library. This is yet another valuable service being offered to residents and reinforces the important services and facilities the library offers the community.”
Any adult living in North East Lincolnshire can join by paying a one-off fee of £4 and a £1 shares deposit, which is returnable.
After saving regularly for 13 weeks, members become eligible for a low cost loan (12.68 per cent APR). Premium loans (26.8 per cent APR), which are not related to savings, are also available. The loans can cost much less than those from other organisations and can often help people with low income or poor credit history.
The Credit Union also has many members who are purely savers. They saving regularly, they can withdraw their money as a share withdrawal, which means paying no interest on their money.
