Labour takes control of North East Lincolnshire Council

Annual General Meeting decides new leadership


A NEW leader of North East Lincolnshire Council was elected at the council’s annual general meeting on Thursday, May 26.

The new leader is Councillor Chris Shaw, who represents Sidney Sussex ward and five labour colleagues will join him to form a six-strong cabinet. He confirmed the appointment of his Cabinet , including Councillor Mick Burnett as the Deputy Leader, who represents Croft Baker ward.

Speaking after his election as leader of North East Lincolnshire Council, Cllr Shaw, said: “We are all looking forward to the challenges ahead. Immediately we have worked closely with the Conservatives and the Liberal Democrats to ensure they are involved in the decisions of the council. It sends a clear message that we will be working together for the benefit of the residents of North East Lincolnshire. We believe that being inclusive is the right way forward.

“I have a strong cabinet and we’ll be working hard to ensure we serve our constituents well.”

Cllr Mick Burnett: deputy leader and portfolio holder for health, wellbeing, tourism and culture
Cllr Alex Wallace: portfolio holder for environment and strategic housing
Cllr Ian Lindley: portfolio holder for people services
Cllr Peggy Elliot: portfolio holder for citizens, partners and support services
Cllr David Bolton: portfolio holder for community safety and neighbourhoods.
