Down Your Street helps residents in the East Marsh
For one week from Monday, October 10, residents in the East Marsh area in Grimsby will be visited by a host of agencies to ensure they have access to the services they want and need.
The Down Your Street campaign will see agencies such as Humberside Police, the Care Plus Group and North East Lincolnshire Council, visit and deliver services direct to the heart of the East Marsh community.
This is the second time in as many months that the partnership campaign has visited the East Marsh area. During September hundreds of households received advice about how to keep their homes warm, others had fire devices fitted to their homes and many residents were asked if they wanted to sign up to the Good Neighbours volunteering scheme.
Portfolio holder for community safety and neighbourhoods, Councillor Dave Bolton hopes that residents will take the opportunity to speak directly with agencies by telling them what is important to their neighbourhood.
Cllr Bolton said: “The first time the Down Your Street team visited the East in Marsh we managed to speak to residents in over 900 properties.
“We aim to visit to a further 700 properties this week offering similar advice and services, but importantly it will be tailored to what these residents want and need.”
John Willis, area co-ordinator, said: “This is a great opportunity for all the agencies to work together to ensure that the residents in the East Marsh are making use of the support that is available to them.
“We found that during our first week of Down Your Street, many people didn’t realise what services they are entitled to. Whether it’s help to ensure they are getting the benefits they need, discount loft insulation or fire safety devices. The Down Your Street team will be happy to help and ensure that help and advice to on hand.”
Steve Beasant chairman of the community neighbourhood forum, East Marsh Involve, said: “There are so many schemes, services and agencies available to support residents; it can sometimes be difficult to know who to go to. This is why Down Your Street is such a great opportunity as they will be here on our doorstep.
“I urge residents to make the most of this week and use it to let them know how you would like to see your local services improved!”
