Cycling and public transport event in Grimsby.
CYCLING fanatics can pedal down to Riverhead Square in Grimsby on Friday, August 31, for a host of demonstrations and information about cycling together with more general public transport advice.
The Bike Bonanza event is taking place from 11am to 4pm and anyone who pops along during the day and gives the organisers feedback will have the chance to win a goody bag full of cycling-related products.
Visitors can visit Dr Bike for cycle maintenance, have a go on a cycle powered scalextric, try out some fun and quirky bikes, sign up for BMX tuition with the community group GYPO (Giving Young People Opportunities), and pick up loads of cycle maps and other guides.
Councillor Peter Wheatley, portfolio holder for regeneration and environment, said: “Following the success of the GB cycling team, the timing for this event couldn’t be better. They’ll be loads of practical information available on the day as well as lots of fun activities. Cycling is great for people’s health and of course for the environment so where and when people can, we strongly encourage it.
“The event is not just about cycling though, there will be stacks of information in the hope that people will think twice about using the car to get to work and the shops.”
As well as the cycling-related activities visitors can get advice about public transport, walking routes, the phone & ride and dial-a-ride services together with learning more about how they can save money by car sharing. Visitors that sign-up to the free car share database on the day (www.travellincs.com) will be entered into a free prize draw to win tickets to the Grimsby Auditorium or a Grimsby Town Football Club match.
