Youth Arts and Sports Festival

Youth Arts Festival 2011

Cleethorpes plays host to family sports and arts event on August 4.

WITH Olympic fever gripping the nation, North East Lincolnshire residents and visitors are invited to attend the annual Youth Arts and Sports Festival taking place at Meridian Park Showground on Saturday, August 4.

The event is being organised by North East Lincolnshire Council’s sports and cultural development teams, the same service that managed the Olympic flame’s journey through the borough in June.

The Cleethorpes venue will open its doors from 11am to 4pm for visitors to enjoy live music from young rock and DJ performers, dance shows, street theatre and arts and crafts. Inflatable rides, a mobile skatepark and other sports demonstrations will be taking place on the day, which costs only £1 per person.

Councillor Mick Burnett, the council’s tourism and culture, said: “This event has it all, music, crafts, dance, sport and games.

“It’s an annual celebration and always attracts large crowds as there is something for everyone.

“In this Olympic year we are hoping that people will want to bring their families down and perhaps try their hand at some Olympic sports!”

Refreshments will be available on the day to buy and visitors are also welcome to bring their own picnics.

The Youth Arts and Sports Festival has been awarded the Inspire mark, the badge of the London 2012 Inspire programme, which recognises innovative and exceptional projects that are directly inspired by the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games.
