Natural England accredit resort park
A CLEETHORPES park has secured a national award for its excellent facilities and outstanding open space.
Natural England’s country parks accreditation scheme has added Cleethorpes Lakeside and Local Nature Reserve to its list of 36 accredited parks across the country.
The Boating Lake and sand dunes area is the second park in North East Lincolnshire to achieve the award, joining Weelsby Woods which secured the status in December last year.
Natural England is the public body responsible for the protection and improvement of the natural environment and they launched the scheme in August 2009 to identify and recognise sites that actually deliver facilities and services expected of a country park.
Cleethorpes Lakeside and Local Nature Reserve will now be added to Natural England's website www.naturalengland.org.uk
Councillor Mick Burnett, deputy leader and portfolio holder for tourism and culture, said: “People in the resort, residents, businesses and visitors value the Boating Lake area and sand dunes – you only have to take a walk along there over the weekend to see hundreds of people enjoying the area.
“To achieve an award from Natural England is wonderful and shows that we are doing the right things, working to a standard that is nationally recognised.”
Jeff Lunn, Natural England’s Area Manager said: “We are delighted to award Cleethorpes Lakeside and Local Nature Reserve the Country Park accreditation. This is a beautiful, important and well looked after site and will be a valuable asset to the community and secure wildlife habitat for years to come.”
