The future is green with new fruit and vegetable supplier

Social enterprise, Green Futures Grimsby is working as North East Lincolnshire Councils new fruit and vegetable supplier from April 1, 2012.

They will be supplying all local produce for Cleethorpes Discovery Centre, The Fishing Heritage Centre, Bradley Football Development Centre, Café central at Grimsby library and Café in the park at People’s park.

Green Futures is a community business and sustainable development project which aims to improve the quality of the local environment and provide the area with a variety of services to both educate people about sustainable living and directly show the benefits of changing the way people think about the environment.

Based at the Vanson Centre in Bradley, Green Futures will serve as a centre of production, education and inclusion for the local community.

The centre will also provide training and advice about healthy eating. Visitors and volunteers alike will be able to learn about and sample many aspects of sustainable living such as locally grown food, renewable energy, sustainable transport and traditional crafts.

Aside from fruit and vegetables, they also produce homemade jams, preserves, pickles and honey.

Sophie Wignall, Operations Officer for culture, leisure and sport for the council said: “I think this will be a fantastic partnership between the council and Green Futures.

“Green Futures will supply fresh quality produce and the services will provide beautiful homemade local specials.”

Pete Allan, Managing Director of Green Futures said: “As a social enterprise that invests in its community, its people and its environment; we at Green Futures are happy to supply fresh, affordable, local and non intensively grown fruit and vegetables to our local infrastructure.

“We are passionate and proud of our produce; we are dedicated towards education and believe that local food is an asset to the local communities and the local economy.”
