IN A historic year for sporting achievements nationally, North East Lincolnshire is also be celebrating the area’s dedicated athletes, committed coaches and inspirational sports people at a ceremony later this year.
Residents have until Friday, October 26, to make their nominations to the North East Lincolnshire Sports Association (NELSA) for their annual awards ceremony, which is being held on Saturday, December 8, at the Grimsby Institute University Centre.
The event recognises the hard work and outstanding ability of the area’s athletes and celebrates the vibrancy of sport in North East Lincolnshire. Nominations are invited in the following categories:
• Coaches Award
• Junior Sports Personality of the Year Award
• Senior Team Award
• Most Improved Sports Person Award
• Junior Disabled Sports Personality of the Year Award
• Services to Sport Award
• Sports Personality of the Year Award
• Disabled Sports Personality of the Year Award
• Junior Team Award
• The Norman Melia Young Persons’ Services to Sports Award
Councillor Mick Burnett, portfolio holder for culture and tourism and chair of NELSA, said: “It’s has been such a historic year for sport nationally but we’ve also seem some tremendous achievements locally as well.
“This awards ceremony recognises the dedication our local sports people make and I look forward to recognising their commitment each year at this special event.”

All nominees must either be a resident of North East Lincolnshire or play their sport within the boundaries of North East Lincolnshire.
Awards evening
Tickets for the awards evening cost £10 each to include a fork buffet and disco. The event starts at 7pm on Saturday, December 8. Tickets and event information is available from the council's sports development team on (01472) 323349.
