Exhibition celebrates 400th anniversary of a pilgrim's journey
Event to take place at Immingham museum
An exhibition to commemorate the 400th Anniversary of the departure of religious separatists from Immingham Creek to Holland is on show at The Immingham Museum until October 31 2008.
The exhibition tells the story of their escape from persecution and is free to view at the Margaret Street Resource Centre.
It will illustrate the journey of how members from a separatist congregation, refusing to comply with religious discrimination in England, escaped imprisonment before boarding a Dutch ship moored in Immingham.
The museum and exhibition is supported by North East Lincolnshire Council’s museum service.
Councillor Steve Hocknell, portfolio holder for culture, leisure and healthier communities, said: “We are delighted to be supporting Immingham Museum’s exhibition which tells an important story of the vital role Immingham played in the Pilgrims’ history.”
Roger Wyman, The Immingham Museum’s Chairman of Trustees, said: “We are very much looking forward to hosting this exhibition and would like to encourage as many people to come down to learn about this fascinating part of Immingham’s history.”
