See the latest food hygiene results in our Scores On The Doors website

THE latest restaurants and food premises inspected by North East Lincolnshire Council have been added to its Scores On The Doors website.

The website, accessed at www.nelincs.gov.uk/scoresonthedoors, will eventually list more than 1,000 food premises across North East Lincolnshire, assessing them for their standards in food hygiene and management.

The Scores On The Doors website grades premises from no stars to five stars, based on inspections by the council's environmental health officers. Council staff work with premises with low scores to turn around their environmental health record.

Thirty-four premises inspected in April have now been uploaded online, ranging from the maximum five stars, showing a high standard of compliance with food safety legislation and robust food safety management, to one-star.

The Council will now be working with low-scoring premises to raise levels to bring them into compliance by the time of their next inspections.

Environmental health manager Steve Mercer said the council was working closely with these and other premises to ensure they improve their standards so that at their next inspection they can receive a better classification.

Mr Mercer said: "We are actively working with under-performing premises to educate them about appropriate food hygiene standards. Scores On The Doors is in its early stages but we believe it is a useful tool in assessing food premises.

"We now have more than 160 premises listed online and will be adding more every month.

"Although the rating system should not be seen as a Michelin-style guide, and only reflects the situation found at the time of a restaurant or catering facility's last inspection, it does provide a useful indicator of its cleanliness and compliance with relevant food hygiene law and the confidence the council has in its management.

"The hope is that this system and its easy availability on the web will ensure that premises achieving consistently high standards are publicly recognised, while encouraging those with deficiencies to improve."

Councillor Andrew De Freitas, leader of North East Lincolnshire Council, said: "This is part of our continuing drive to improve the quality of life across the borough. The presence of these indicators on the web should act as encouragement to businesses to keep their premises in order, and provide a useful guide to would-be diners. We hope diners and restauranteurs alike can benefit from this innovative and informative new website."
