Council tax evader receives suspended jail sentence
Woman must also repay the money she owes
A GRIMSBY woman has been handed a suspended jail sentence by magistrates for not paying council tax.
Karen Louise Poulter, of Ladysmith Road, Grimsby, must also pay back more than £2,500 in council tax which she failed to pay between 2002 and 2006.
Miss Poulter, who works for the NHS in a local Health Centre, appeared at Grimsby Magistrates’ Court on July 2, 2008. She agreed that she was liable for council tax during this time and the court subsequently found her guilty of culpable neglect.
She was ordered to repay the total amount of £2,520.48 at a rate of £20 per week. She was also told that failure to repay the money would result in imprisonment of up to 40 days.
