Win cash - just by reading!
The reading challenge gives incentive to adults to read six library books
Libraries in North East Lincolnshire are offering members the chance to win cash, just by reading library books.
The reading challenge invites adults to read six library books with incentives to help them along the way.
The challenge is part of the National Year of Reading celebrations that aim to help build a greater national passion for reading in England.
The challenge runs until December 2008 and each month participants who step up to the challenge can win cash prizes ranging from £50 to £250.
To be in with a chance of winning the first £50 cash prize, all participants have to do is read one non-children's library book by the end of July.
Councillor Steve Hocknell, portfolio holder for culture, leisure and healthier communities, is keen to see as many new people in the libraries participating in this incentive scheme.
He said: "Anyone over the age of 16 can take part in Read and Win! You can win in so many ways with reading. You can stimulate your imagination; increase your knowledge, and gain pleasure and enjoyment.
" A cash prize is an additional bonus. Don't worry if you are not already a library member as it's free and easy to register at any North East Lincolnshire library.
"There are cash prizes on offer each month, so if you don't win the first cash prize all you have to do is read another book to enter into the free draw again."
The cash prizes start at £50 and increase throughout the scheme as more books are read.
At the end of September, if participants have logged that they have read three books they have the chance of winning £100.
Participants who complete the full challenge by reading six books by the end of December will be entered into the draw to be in with the chance of winning £250.
Councillor Steve Hocknell added: "It's that easy, the more you read the more chances you have of winning."
In order to be accepted into the monthly draws, participants have to register and complete a postcard after they have read each library book.
This will tell library staff what they thought of the book and whether they would recommend it to other participants.
