If you suspect someone is committing benefit fraud you can contact us by the following methods:
- On-line, using our Report benefit fraud form
- By telephone on our confidential fraud hotline 01472 326298. The hotline is staffed 9am to 5pm, Monday to Friday and a recorded message can be left outside these hours.
- Or by writing to North East Lincolnshire Council, Counter Fraud Section, Civic Offices, Knoll Street, Cleethorpes, DN35 8LN.
North East Lincolnshire Council is determined to take all possible steps to prevent and eliminate fraud. This cannot be done without your help.
The vast majority of people who claim benefits are honest. Those who commit benefit theft are picking the pockets of law-abiding taxpayers. Deliberately withholding information that affects benefit entitlement is stealing.
Responsibility for the investigation of Housing and Council Tax Benefit fraud is expected to transfer to the Department for Work and Pensions in November 2015. Once the transfer is complete, North East Lincolnshire Council will have no powers to investigate or sanction cases of benefit fraud. From this date the Council’s Benefit Fraud Sanction Policy will be withdrawn.
