There may be times when you notice a mistake on a birth, death or marriage certificate after the time of registration and you would like this error corrected.

It is not always possible to correct an entry. Each correction is individual and dealt with on individual merits.

At the time of registration it is always pointed out that you are about to sign a legal document and once signed by the informant and the Registrar it is very difficult to change. The onus is on the informant to make sure all the details are correct.

If you do require a correction, you must provide documentary evidence of the correct facts, dated at the time of the registration. Documents dated after the date of registration will not be accepted by either the Register Office or General Register Office if the correction requires authorisation by the Registrar General.

If you wish to request a correction to be made, and the event is registered in North East Lincolnshire, please contact the Register Office in the first instance.
