These ceremonies are an essential part of the naturalisation process and are intended to both welcome and encourage new citizens to play a positive role in British society.
The ceremonies involve new citizens making an Oath of Allegiance to Her Majesty the Queen, followed by a pledge of Citizenship. There is a formal presentation of certificates and an opportunity to take photographs.
The ceremonies are held either at the North East Lincolnshire Register Office in Cleethorpes or Grimsby Town Hall and are usually attended by either the Mayor or their deputy and a representative from the Lord Lieutenants Office and they play an active part in the ceremony itself. Often the Mayor extends an invitation to attend for refreshments following the formal ceremony.
Ceremonies are usually held on the second Wednesday of each month with no more than 10 new citizens participating. Citizens are encouraged to invite members of their families or friends to attend as guests. It is possible, for a fee, to arrange an individual, private ceremony.
