The Service provides a range of courses in a number of centres selected for their location to Wards identified as being high in deprivation and need. Any learner that is a resident of these wards who chooses to attend these centres may claim fee remission and certification/examination costs.

Charges to all other users of these centres are as stated in the main fee concessions.

Learner Support Funds

Support Funds are available for learners who are in receipt of means tested benefit towards payment for childcare, examination and registration costs. Learners experiencing difficulties completing their course because of financial constraints may also be eligible for help with learning resources etc.

Learners claiming reimbursement for examination, registration and certification are required to pay the standard administration charge. Further reimbursement may be available for the costs of books, resources, equipment and transport. Applications will need to demonstrate mitigating circumstances and confirm that without this extra support the learning programme could not be completed.

Learners wishing to claim learner support funds are required to register their claim, provide evidence of their benefit and sign a declaration form.

  • For full information on eligibility criteria for financial support contact your local Community Learning Centre where the staff will be happy to provide further information.

  • Learners wishing to appeal against any decisions made against any of the above may do so in writing. All appeals will be independently considered on their own merit and outcomes will be notified as soon as possible.

Data Protection

Information you provide us at enrolment will be passed to the Skills Funding Agency, which is registered under the DATA PROTECTION ACT 1984. The registration is primarily for the collection and analysis of statistical data but it also allows the Council to share information with other organisations for the purpose of detecting fraud. Further information about data confidentiality is available upon request from the institution at which you are enrolling.
