2012 has to be the biggest year ever for events ...
- Footballs European Cup is taking place in Poland, kick off is the 8th June in the National Stadium Warsaw
- July sees the start of the Olympic games in London with the Olympic torch passing through North East Lincolnshire on the 26th and 27th June
Queens Diamond Jubilee - The Jubilee Woods Project
2012 will be the Queens Diamond Jubilee. It was on the 6th February that the then Princess Elizabeth received the news that her father King George VI had died and her own accession to the throne and her reign as Queen Elizabeth II.
In order to have a lasting tribute to her 60 year reign North East Lincolnshire Council have entered into a partnership with the Woodland Trust to create 5 woodlands in North East Lincolnshire.
The woodlands will be in Immingham, Grimsby and Cleethorpes these sites total 60 acres representing 1 acre for each year of her reign.
The sites are:-
Spring Street, Immingham
This is the first and biggest site with planting commencing in the Winter 2011. Within the woodland we will also be creating a cross country course through the trees.
Coomb Briggs, Immingham
This woodland extends the size of the woodlands already on the site. With planting taking place in the winter of 2012/2013.
Weelsby Avenue, Grimsby
This area is between Peaks Parkway and the Oasis Academy: Wintringham as you approach the Crematorium. Planting will be taking place in the winter 2012/2013.
Westward Ho, Grimsby
This is another big site turning amenity grass into a woodland and joining onto the old allotment site, planting trees round the new health centre. The site will then blend into the blow well creating a wetland running in the area. Planting taking place in the winter 2012/2013.
Cleethorpes Country Park, Cleethorpes
This site is on Cleethorpes Country Park between the Golf Club and Buck Beck running down to Kings Road. Some of the trees will spill over onto the course blending the course with the park. Planting to take place in the winter 2012/2013.
- All these woodlands are for the community to enjoy and for the benefit of the community
We will be holding tree planting events all through the winter months of 2012/2013 and everybody is welcome to take part. We will also be approaching clubs, schools and groups so they can have their own tree planting event.

For me there is nothing more satisfying than being involved in planting a woodland then watching it develop.
Mike Sleight, Ecology Officer
News of the Jubilee Woodlands Project will be on these web pages and the local press.
