Cleethorpes beach has recently gained 3 Quality Coast Awards for bathing and non-bathing beaches and holds Blue Flag status.

Cleethorpes' popularity grew in the 19th century because of its excellent beaches and miles of beautiful golden sand. North East Lincolnshire Council work hard to ensure that the beaches are maintained to a high standard, ensuring the seafront remains a pleasant place for visitors and a haven for wildlife.

The North East Lincolnshire Coast is recognised internationally as a special site for wildlife, migrating birds, and unusual plants. For more information about diversity and nature conservation on our coastline, go to our parks and open spaces pages.

Dogs on the Beach

Dogs are not allowed on the Beach from Wonderland Groyne - Cleethorpes Leisure Centre from Good Friday until 30th September.

Please see Beach Map for permitted dog exercise area during these times.

Beach Safety Team

The Beach Safety Team operates 365 days a year,

  • between 09:00 - 17.30 between April and September
  • 09:00 -  dusk between October and March

We can provide educational talks on our roles, and welcome individuals, groups, clubs, societies or organisations who wish to take part in Beach Litter Clean Ups. Please contact us for more details on these events.

Pleasure Craft

The Beach Safety Team encourage the use of small pleasure craft off the resort, however, we are keen to ensure that vessels are used safely and user's respect the rules, for their own safety and that of the user's around them. Please make sure you read our safety guide for small craft user's, the Vessels and Small Craft Booklet (see downloads at bottom of page).

Since April 2007, the rules about use of the slipways to the sea have been changed. For more information about the new rules, and how to book a launch for your vessel, please go to our slipways page.

Beach Cleaning

March - October: the beach is raked and litter-picked daily from Wonderland, past the Pier and Leisure Centre to the Fitties. The area through the sand dunes from the Leisure Centre to the Fitties is litter-picked.

October - March: the beach is raked and litter-picked on Friday, Saturday, Sunday and Monday. Beach Safety monitor the levels of litter, so additional Street Cleansing staff can be allocated if required.
