Young people can be classed as homeless if:
• they have nowhere to live;
• they are provisionally based in temporary accommodation such as a short-stay hostel, bed and breakfast, hotel or squat;
• they cannot stay in their home because of violence or the threat of violence;
• they are staying temporarily with friends or relatives who are unable or unwilling to accommodate them in the future; and
• they have somewhere to live but it is not reasonable to expect them to stay there.
If you are 16 or 17 and homeless in North East Lincolnshire, here are some of the steps that you can take.
Step One
A homeless preventative officer, from Children and Family Services or support worker from a supported housing provider will ask you questions to find out about your situation and whether anything can be done to support you where you are. This will include talking to your parents or carers about why you can’t live at home any longer.
Step Two
If you have nowhere to stay that night, temporary accommodation will be found for you, this is likely to be a hostel, supported lodgings or occasionally a B&B. This accommodation will continue to be provided for you until your needs and circumstances are fully understood.
Step Three
If you are homeless and it is agreed that you cannot return home, you will be supported in choosing the most suitable accommodation available to you. You can also decide if you wish to continue to receive support from the Home Options Team or Children and Family Services.
