Outreach Workshops

The Fishing Heritage Centre offers hands on learning experience at your school and provides the following outreach workshops.

Toy story foundations/KS1 (one hour)

Investigate toys through the ages from Tudor period to the modern day in this hands-on session.  Discover through playing with the toys what they are made of and how they work.

Meet Florence Nightingale, fresh from her work at Scutari Hospital.  Discover more about her life through role-play and explore and handle the objects in her travelling trunk

Eyes to the front KS1/KS2

Experience the Victorian schoolroom at your school complete with authentic objects.   Read from a Primer, write on a slate and recite your tables in this engaging workshop.

Roman life and times KS2

Discover what everyday life was like for the Romans in this engaging workshop.  Handle real Roman artefacts, visit the Roman Market stall to develop numeracy skills and make a herb pomander to keep.

Egyptian life and times KS2

Use all your senses to experience Egyptian life and times.  Handle replica artefacts, identify and select items for a tomb and mummify a body.

Anglo Saxon life and times KS2

Meet Ethelfreda and discover the religious beliefs and customs of the Anglo Saxons.  Examine the evidence from a local burial site, dress up in a costume and make a pendant.
