Neighbourhood development is a tool that puts local people and communities at the heart of local decision making.

Neighbourhood development was introduced in 2008 by the North East Lincolnshire Strategic Partnership. Neighbourhood Development is a tool that brings local people and agencies together in a range of ways (whether through meetings or more individual engagement) to enable opportunities for local people to have greater influence in the way services are tasked and delivered in their local neighbourhood.

It also provides a recognised platform for local people to discuss aspirations and ambitions for their local area in a flexible way and work with local agencies to put in place joint activity that brings about confidence and lasting change.

The Structure: 15 wards – 1 Borough

The Ward Level
North East Lincolnshire is made up of 15 electoral wards with defined geographical boundaries, each having its own Elected Ward Councillors.

Community Involvement
It is recognised that each ward in North East Lincolnshire is different and has its own issues and aspirations. Neighbourhood Development aims to work alongside Elected Members, existing community groups and local people through a Neighbourhood Forum to identify issues of concern and aspirations for the future and work together to make it happen.

Where Parish Council’s exist, Neighbourhood Development will seek to support and compliment where required the excellent ongoing work undertaken by Parish Council’s via there own existing mechanisms.

Borough
It is important to recognise that whilst “one size does not fit all”; it is the aim to develop a Borough wide approach to Neighbourhood Development across North East Lincolnshire.

A Neighbourhood Development Board consisting of key partner agencies and community representatives has been established to ensure that the work across the 15 wards is joined up and collectively works together to create a better and more inclusive and involved North East Lincolnshire.

Creating Stronger Communities through Neighbourhood Development
The document sets out both the strategic intention for Neighbourhood Development within the partnership context but also includes operational development tasks that will be updated.

Please download the Plan from the document download list.
