The role of the Older People's Champion was launched as part of the National Service Framework for Older People in 2001. This is a major Central Government plan setting out the priorities and expected standards in social and health care for Older People.
The Older People's Champion is a voluntary but high profile role with a wide ranging remit. Their job is to galvanise the views of Older People and represent these views at the highest levels of local decision making.
These collective views may be about issues that are specific to older people, but an important aspect of the Older People's Champion role is to make sure that Older People have a say in areas that are of interest to everyone - issues like regeneration, crime prevention and cultural events.
Locally, our Older People's Champion is Councillor Ian Lindley. Councillor Lindley is a Cabinet member of North East Lincolnshire Council. He therefore has the opportunity to be a voice for Older People at the centre of planning within North East Lincolnshire.
