Cans, paper and glass

In North East Lincolnshire recycling is collected from the doorstep of most properties in three coloured boxes for : cans, paper and glass. Collections take place every fortnight..

Flats and multiple dwellings may be serviced by a mini recycling site for cans, paper and glass which are blue wheelie bins with red lids.

To find out when your collections are due type in your address on our Collections calendar. For more details of your triple recycling boxes including what is accepted for recycling please visit the Triple Boxes collection page. Excess cans, paper and glass can be taken to the Community Recycling Centres or car park bring sites.

Storage ideas for boxes:

For storage ideas for these boxes please open the download on the right of this page - there are brackets for the wall, or a trolley.

Garden waste

Garden waste can be collected from the doorstep of most properties. Collections take place every fortnight March - October and once monthly November-February.

To find out when your recycling collections are due type in your address on our Collections calendar.  For more details of your Garden waste collection including what is accepted for recycling please visit the Garden waste collection page. Excess garden waste can be taken to the Community Recycling Centres, or a second bin can be ordered at a charge of £25 a year for emptying.

Plastic bottles

Plastic bottles can be taken to one of 54 bring sites around the area, to be collected for recycling. These are situated in open areas such as car parks and at supermarkets. Please wash and squash the bottles and remove the lids. Thank you.

Find your nearest Bring site for plastic bottles.

Waste electrics

Please take all waste electronic and electrical equipment (WEEE) to the Community Recycling Centres where it can be separated for recycling.

Textiles

Shoes and textiles can be taken to recycling banks around the area.

Food

Food waste - some can be composted if you have a home compost heap, or you could buy a subsidised compost bin. Alternatively try a green cone which will break down food from a family of 4, whether it is cooked or uncooked. All nutrients are returned to the soil. It does not attract vermin and is safe for pets.

Please download information from the right of this page.

What happens to other waste?

Household waste that cannot be recycled is collected in a green wheelie bin once a week. It is sent to the Energy from Waste facility near Stallingborough to be incinerated and produces electricity and steam. For more information on your general waste collections please visit the General waste bin page.

You can take other household waste to the Community Recycling Centres (council tips), as well as bulky waste. Please check if the materials are accepted before making a trip.

Please try to recycle as much as possible to save resources for future generations.

IMPORTANT CHANGES TO THE SERVICE

The council is introducing a number of important changes to the waste collection service.

These are:

  • All residents must recycle as much as possible using the triple boxes.
  • Side waste (extra bagged waste) will not be collected. All waste needs to fit inside the green wheeled bin.
  • From 1st April 2012 residents must pay for a second garden waste bin collection. All residents are allowed one bin for garden waste collected free of charge.
  • From 1st April 2012 residents will be charged for replacement wheeled bins and recycling boxes
  • From 1st June 2012 cardboard will no longer be accepted in your brown (garden waste) bin. Instead it must be placed in the green wheeled bin or taken to the CRC. This is to improve the quality of our garden waste collections and the compost produced.
  • A leaflet will be sent to every household in our area by the end of April giving full details of these changes.

If you have any queries please contact us using the Waste Hotline 01472 325841

A pdf version of the leaflet is available to download on the right of this page.
