Real Nappy Week 2012
We'll be out and about in North East Lincolnshire between 16- 22 April to show off the modern, washable nappy options, and to tell parents and carers about the cost savings available. Find out where your nearest event will be.
- Every day 8 million nappies are thrown away in the UK
- The average baby produces 12 full wheelie bins of disposable nappies each year.
Real nappies have progressed a long way from terry towel and safety pins.
- a breathable, waterproof cover
- fastened by poppers, velcro or plastic grips giving a snug comfortable fit
- soft absorbant nappy padding
- a liner that can be flushed away
- a huge range of sizes, styles and colours.
- designed to last until potty training.
- cheaper than disposables even including washing costs, half the price over the infancy of a child.
The main difficulty for parents and carers can be the purchase of the nappies and covers : that's where our scheme comes in. We will refund parents and carers in North East Lincolnshire half the costs of Real nappies, up to £50.
For example:
You Spend £60 - We pay back £30
You Spend £100 - We pay back £50
You Spend £120 - We pay back £50
If you are interested, fill in the Real Nappy application form and we will send you an information pack.
Real Nappy champions
We have a network of local Real Nappy champions to advise our officers, to improve the advertisement of the money back scheme, and better inform the choices of local parents about the alternatives to disposables. These are local parents who chose to 'Go Real'.
If you would also like to share information more widely about the 50/50 money back scheme, and to encourage more parents in our area to choose to 'Go Real', you could be involved in promotion as little or as much as you would like, depending on your availability. If you would like to be a local Real Nappy champion or would like some support and advice in using Real nappies please telephone 01472 325843.
Try before you buy
A local mum has set up a trial kit borrowing scheme, so you can try all the different designs of modern real nappies and work out what is best for you before making a purchase.
For a small deposit and fee to cover washing and transport costs, you can borrow a kit for several weeks and access lots of advice and expertise.

Why are we running this scheme?
Not having to collect and dispose of this waste is environmentally and financially wise. It reduces the amount of waste being transported and incinerated.
