Participation Strategy
The Participation Strategy was developed so that we can communicate with children, young people and their parents/carers in developing a service that supports and improves the well being of all children and young people. The Participation Strategy has adopted the Hear by Rights Standards which is a national framework for measuring the engagement of children and young people. It is used to ensure that consultation and engagement activities are planned and delivered to a high standard.
Participation activities have included:
- Children and young people being involved in the appointment of the Children's Fund programme manager and Participation Officer.
- The development of 'Nelly for Me' a website for Looked After Children and their carers, developed with the help of children and young people.
- A 'befriender' scheme in the short break service that provided children and young people the opportunity to take part in activities with support like swimming, guides etc.
- The Young People's Service which has a website specifically designed by young people for all young people aged 11 to 25 years. The site provides young people with advice and opportunities to participate in issues relating to them.
- The 'What Matters' campaign. A competition to find out what matters to children and young people in North East Lincolnshire. The entries and designed images have been used in the development and throughout the Children and Young People's Plan
- The development of 'Ideas into Action', a residential for children and young people aged 8- 18 years old
- Junior Scrutiny panels are under development. Through these, young people can scrutinise the decisions being made about them.
- School Councils. These are nominated groups of children and young people who meet regularly in every school in North East Lincolnshire to discuss issues that are important to them.
- The School Council Forum. This is a group of school council members who meet on a regular basis to look at particular issues of interest.
- Surveys such as the 'Adolescent Lifestyle' and 'Tell US' which obtain the views of children and young people.
- 'Building schools for the future'. Children and young people are being asked to get involved in the design of new schools.
