Where do our Children and Young People go to School?

During the last year we have seen some changes in our school profile.  North East Lincolnshire has at present 3 nursery schools, 10 infant schools, 10 junior schools, 34 primary schools (including 3 voluntary aided schools), 6 secondary schools (including 1 voluntary aided school), 2 foundation schools, 3 academies, 2 special schools, 3 pupil referral units and 3 private schools. There have been five mergers, between infant and junior schools, to date and a further six are planned between 2008 - 2010.

The private, independent and voluntary sector offers places as follows:  102 registered childminders offering 465 places (17 of which are integrated learning and care); 60 group based providers (FDC, sessional and crèche) offering 1720 places; 39 out of school providers offering 1130 places (although this does include some unregistered breakfast club provisions operated by primary schools).

Core and extended school provision are able to access the borough's 10 libraries, 3 leisure centres, 2 swimming pools, 1 sports hall and 1 field and track facility.

There are currently twelve children's centres offering fully integrated services with a further two due to open in 2008.  The children's centres are located at:

Delivering extended services in and around schools is critical to the delivery of the Every Child Matters agenda and the raising of standards.  Delivery is around the extended schools' 8am - 6pm 'core offer' of childcare, a varied menu of activities (study support), parenting support, specialised support services and community access to schools.

We will continue to support schools to deliver the core offer and the various programmes that are available to support the initiative and every school will be providing access to the full core offer by 2010
