Detailed below are our priority areas for 2007-10. The 2007-8 Needs Assessment has informed the identification of these priorities and as a result of the updated needs assessment some new priority areas have been identified for the 2007-10 Plan, these are highlighted below.
Supporting all children and young people to enjoy and achieve by:
- Improving school attendance
- Enabling them to achieve high standards in all schools but particularly in secondary school and post 16 provision
Other areas for development
- Improving behaviour in schools and reduce bullying
- Further improving attendance and reducing exclusions
- Developing new learning methods to meet the needs of children and young people to ensure progress and a more enjoyable learning experience
- Improving transport and access to facilities (inc in relation to proposed new secondary school education arrangements)
- Supporting young carers so that they can take full part in education and leisure facilities
- Enabling children and young people with learning difficulties/disabilities to take part in sport and leisure activities
- Providing better resources so that all children and young people can get out more, meet new people, get involved in activities (extra curricular)
- Providing better support for young carers and looked after children
- Developing booster classes for year six and improving transition to secondary school
- Improving the progress of vulnerable and looked after children
- Making leisure and cultural facilities/activities more accessible, particularly for young people living outside the urban area
- Providing more enjoyable activities in an out of school
- Providing greater access to leisure and recreational facilities for disabled and young people
- Ensure recently discharged offenders receive their full educational entitlement
