The 2007 - 2010 Children and Young People's Plan sets out long term top priorities for children and young people. Detailed below are some of the steps we have taken in working towards meeting these priorities.
Enjoy and Achieve - Top Priorities for 2007-2010
Supporting all children and young people to enjoy and achieve by:
- Improving school attendance
- Enabling them to achieve highly through improved standards in all schools but particularly in secondary school and post 16 provision
We are:

further developing a Learner Engagement Programme, for pupils already permanently excluded or vulnerable to permanent exclusion

working in partnership with Extended Schools, Sports Development, Young People's Service, Libraries and Community Groups to provide a comprehensive offer of holiday activities during every holiday. These are brought together in holiday activity booklets which are distributed to 28,000 children and young people

locating two touch-screen Parent Information Points in Children's Centres and negotiations are underway to locate two others, one in a GP surgery and another in a school reception
We have:

engaged young carers in the development of HQ Arts Performance which was presented to elected members and officers at the Town Hall

completed a promotional DVD which raises awareness of young carers issues

provided programmed dance, drama and music in venues across the borough, through partnership working with Arts Development

introduced a work related learning programme, 'Project 55', for up to 55 young people who are vulnerable to permanent exclusion

through the 'Playing for Success' Study Support Centre at Grimsby Town Football Club, worked with all secondary schools and over a third of the primary schools in the borough and expanded this provision to include two additional centres located within community settings to provide targeted neighbourhood support to specific schools

achieved the best yet overall results for the number of 11 year olds achieving level 4 or above in English and Maths
