Foster Care Service
Welcome to the web pages of the North East Lincolnshire Fostering Service.
The Local Authority has a duty to provide a safe and stable environment for those children deemed to be in Need or at Risk.
For some children this could be a respite placement to support children in need and their families. For other children it may be for a short period to support and prevent permanent family breakdown. The Local Authority also provides longer-term placement for those children who cannot safely return to their birth families.
Children:
The Local Authority provides placements for children of all ages from new-born to teenagers. There have been major social changes in recent years so that there are significantly older children than babies who require foster placements.
Many children requiring a foster placement may have suffered very damaging experiences, such as, neglect, emotional, physical or sexual abuse. These experiences may manifest in a child displaying many different/complex behaviours.
When a child/young person becomes fostered it can be a very distressing time; they will require a high level of patience, understanding and support.
Children/young people often need help in coming to terms with the loss/separation of their families, friends and environment.
Foster Families:
Children needing foster families come from various backgrounds, with different experiences and personalities so a range of families are needed.
All applicants will be considered on their own merit and on their ability to meet a child/young person's needs. Some important qualities for successful fostering are tolerance, flexibility, resilience, patience and a sense of humour.
Consideration will be given to all enquiries including single applicants, families with or without children, employed or unemployed.
Applicants willing and able to meet the challenges of a modern fostering service are given expert and continuing support and advice from all professionals involved in the fostering process.
We look forward to hearing from you.
