Local Safeguarding Children Board (LSCB) - Definition

It is a requirement of the Children Act 2004 that each Children's Service authority in England establishes a Local Safeguarding Children Board by the 1st April 2006. Local Safeguarding Children's Boards (LSCB) are the key statutory mechanism for agreeing how organisations working with and providing services for children in each local area will co-operate to safeguard and promote the welfare of children and to ensure the effectiveness of the work done for that purpose. The Core function of the Local Safeguarding Children Board Regulations 2006 set out in the LSCB Regulations 2006.
The North East Lincolnshire Area Child Protection Committee commenced work towards the preparation of a Local Safeguarding Children Board in June 2005. The North East Lincolnshire Area Child Protection Committee transformed to a Local Safeguarding Children Board on the 3rd February 2006. The Children Act 2004 specifies statutory core members that should be represented on the Board and other relevant additional members of organisations who work with and provide services for children and young people.
