Footways and Path Repairs
The Council, as the Highway Authority, is responsible for the maintenance of approximately 950km of adopted footways and paths within North East Lincolnshire. Maintenance of footways and paths includes making safe potentially dangerous defects such as cracked, broken or uneven paving slabs and potholes in tarmac footways.
Defects are defined as a trip hazard in the footway surface or kerb, which result in a trip hazard of more than 1 inch or 25 mm. Footway damage generally occurs as a result of overrunning of vehicles, excavations by Statutory Undertakers or failure of equipment under the surface.
Defects can develop over short periods of time and depending on size, depth and location will be a greater or lesser risk to the general public. The Council follows national guidance with respect to the classification of defects and the time scale for any repairs to be carried out. The response of the Council will be dependent on the severity and location of the reported defect.
Any potentially dangerous defects within the adopted highway are normally repaired or made safe within 24 hours. If the defect is not considered dangerous the repair will be included in a future programme of planned works. Programmed footway repairs are usually completed within six weeks.
