Book in advance
The best rail fares are available if you book in advance, preferably 14 or 7 days in advance, but there are bargain fares available on many routes until 14:00 hours the day before you travel.
The cheapest fares are operator specific, date and journey specific, and booked 14 days in advance, this is the Super Apex ticket. This ticket is only available on some routes at certain times.
Travel out of peak hours
Fares are generally cheaper if you travel Monday to Friday 09:00 to 15:30 and after 18:00.
Travel with one operator
If you willing to use the services of one operator only, these tickets generally cost less.

Young Persons Railcard and Student Railcard: available for persons aged under 24 and full time students.
