Walking Bus
What is a Walking Bus?
A Walking Bus is a 'crocodile' of children walking to school together and supervised by approved adult walkers along a set route to school. There are regular 'walking bus stops' along the way where children can join the bus.
Walking Buses are for children between four and 11 years of age, although any age can join so long as the adult to child ratio is acceptable.
Why use a Walking Bus?
- Teaches children road safety skills,
- Helps children to be safe and be seen on the way to school,
- Builds healthy heart, lungs and bones through gentle exercise,
- Helps children's education by improving their mental capabilities,
- Gives children cleaner air to breathe,
- Makes the area around the school safer by reducing traffic,
- Gives parents and guardians more time and money to spend how they wish.
