POST TITLE: School Crossing Patrol/Standby.

REPORTS TO: School Crossing Patrol Officer.
1. PURPOSE OF JOB
To ensure the safety of children crossing the road at a designated point between specified times. The discharge of these duties must not be to the detriment of the welfare of other road users.
2. MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES
- To carry out the Council's Policy with regard to the School Crossing Patrol Service, which includes Health and Safety Procedures.
- To use the uniform and equipment provided for the safety of yourself, children and all other members of the public, especially when stopping traffic on the highway.
- Maintain control over children who are waiting your instruction to cross.
- Report any problems or difficulties to the School Crossing Patrol Officer.
- To undertake any other relevant duties require from time to time, as reasonably correspond to the general charter of the post, and which are commensurate with the level of responsibility. The post requires a particularly high degree of flexibility.
- To attend a yearly local training seminar.

6. DECISIONS
Make the final decision to enable the members of the public (children) to cross the road safely at the designated crossing point.

8. WORK ENVIRONMENT
a) Work Demands - The post holder is responsible for ensuring the safety of the pedestrian whilst on the crossing point in a variety of traffic flows.
b) Physical Demands - The post requires high level of physical fitness as they will b e require to stand and walk for the length of their duty in all weather conditions, all year round.
c) Working Conditions - The post holder will be require to work outside for the length of their duties with only the protection of high visibility clothing. Standby patrols will be required to move to several locations around the Authority when required.
d) Work Context - The post holder may be a lone worker although the post requires direct contact with children and members of the public.
9. KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS
The post holder must have the ability to communicate effectively with children and adults alike. The postholder must have the ability to work on their own initiative and have the ability to timekeep.

a) Other Duties -
The duties and responsibilities in this job description are not restrictive and the postholder may be required to undertake any other duties which may be required from time to time. Any such duties should not however substantially change the general character of the post.
