Road Markings and Road Studs
The Council, as the Highway Authority, is responsible for the maintenance of all the markings and road studs (cats eyes) on its adopted highway network of approximately 550km of road. The maintenance of road markings and road studs includes the remarking of all white and yellow lines when they become worn or damaged and the replacement of road studs when they are missing.
Council inspects all its roads in accordance with national guidance and any lining defects or missing road studs are noted at this time and prioritised for repairs according to their severity and importance.
Road markings and road studs are important as they inform and warn road users of approaching situations or are used to give effect to regulatory provisions faded road markings do not generally constitute an emergency or serious defect and are normally remarked within 6 weeks as part of a programme of planned works Missing or defective road studs are generally replaced as part of a bulk change programme of works during the winter months.
To report a defect on a footpath please use our online form, alternatively use the contact details to the right.
